Description

The Trifid nebula, also known as M20 by the astronomer Messier, photographed from Monte Bondone, Trento, Italy (1640m)  with 3 distinct exposure sessions and a total of 190 minutes of exposure. Celestron Edge HD 8" telescope, with ASI 294MC PRO (cooled). 2 filters were used, one Optolong L-PRO in the visible to reduce light pollution and another Optolong L-eNhance to isolate the narrow bands Hα (Hydrogen) and OIII (Oxygen), which are highlighted in the photo in the colors of red and blue respectively, while the dark bands in the center are cold dust and gas. This nebula is a region of great star formation and it is about 5000 light years away from Earth and the star in the center contributes to the illumination of the entire nebula.
