Description

The North America Nebula (NGC 7000 or Caldwell 20) is an emission nebula in the constellationCygnus, close to Deneb (the tail of the swan and its brightest star). The shape of the nebula resembles that of the continent of North America, complete with a prominent Gulf of Mexico.

I processed this as a simulated Hubble Palette image based on the  process provided by lukomatico in his YouTube video.

To the naked eye/direct observation the human eye mainly sees the red tones from the Ha/Hii emission (it is an emission nebula).  The post processing brings out this false color image which is amazingly beautiful, IMO.  The Pelican Nebula is just off screen, above the "east coast/Gulf of Mexico).

Located the Cygnus Constellation, NGC 7000 is part of the large nebula cloud within that constellation.
