Description

NGC 6946[b], [/b]or the Fireworks Galaxy, is a face-on spiral galaxy in the constellation of Cepheus near the boundary of Cygnus. Its distance from Earth is about 25.2 million light-years. It was discovered by William Hershel in 1798.  It is called the Fireworks Galaxy due the fact that 10 supernovae have been seen in this galaxy since 1917. Taken by Jason Blaschka
