Description

Once again a great classic: M17.M17, located in Sagittarius and visible from the 2 hemispheres, is also called omega or Swan Nebula. It is an emission nebula, its strong luminosity comes from young B-type stars that irradiate the gas around HII.The central bar of the nebula actually masks an open cluster consisting of about thirty young stars that could be observed in IR, as well as a high density of dust favorable to their formation.This bar, the brightest part really pulls towards the white and not overexposed as one might think. This phenomenon is apparently the result of mixing the emission light of the very hot gas with that of bright stars reflected by the surrounding dust. The nebula contains a large amount of dark matter whose presence is made evident by the remarkable shapes it reveals. This material has been heated by the young hidden stars and shines strongly in infrared light.  It is about 5500 Light-Years away for a size of about 40 Light-Years (the central bar represents only 15 Light-Years). We offer it in SHORGB mode as well as in classical RGB version
