Description

This barred spiral galaxy is NGC 2146 in the constellation Camelopardalis, at a distance of 70 million light-years from Earth. The smaller galaxy is NGC 2146a, which is thought to have had a close encounter with NGC 2146 and has bent one of it's arms across its core. Not one of the more popular astrophotography targets, but interesting to see the detail in an object that is so distant.
