Description

Located in the Draco constellation, at about 130 million light-years away from Earth, the edge-on galaxy NGC 5981, the elliptical galaxy NGC 5982 and the spiral galaxy NGC 5985 form a distinct trio. It is not clear if or when these galaxies might merge with each other. But there is already evidence that NGC 5982 has already merged with one or more smaller galaxies in the recent past.

Many smaller galaxies are also visible in this frame, like NGC 5976, a lenticular galaxy, in the top right of the frame, neighbored by PGC55604.  A total of 9 galaxies were detected by the platesolver but many others are visible.

I collected luminance data during a trip to a Bortle 4 region, while the RGB were collected from my balcony in a Bortle 6 town. I am still trying to improve my broadband images, especially when it comes to the background and the colors of the stars/galaxies. Any feedback or criticism is always welcome.

Clear Skies!
