Description

Caroline Herschel gave up a singing career to serve as her brother William's assistant, but she became a celebrated astronomer in her own right.  She discovered at least 8 comets and multiple nebulae, and was asked by the Astronomer Royal to update and correct the British Catalogue of stars.  For these efforts she was granted a pension by the king, making her the first female professional astronomer.

NGC 7789 is an open cluster discovered by Caroline in 1783.  It's known as the "White Rose" or "Caroline's Rose", due to patterns of stars that resemble swirls and petals when viewed through small telescopes.
