Description

This is an attempt to salvage an imaging session gone bad. Our trusty astro group headed out to Picket Post Trailhead last night to take advantage of the good weather forecast and Bortle 4 skies. Someone made the comment about this being the best imaging conditions in months to which we all agreed. Well, everyone but the weather gods.

About 3 hours into the session, winds came out of nowhere and sub arc second guiding suddenly spiked to 4+ seconds. I think we must have experienced the edge of a high pressure system moving in as the ambient temperature spiked up with the wind and we all saw our camera coolers jump from 30% to over 50% load. While interesting to witness the weather phenomena, our imaging session was cut short.

I decided to image M 104 since I don't have a good view of it from my backyard. My total acquisition time was far short of what was needed but I decided to forge ahead and see if I could make some lemonade out of the lemon session. I was not able to finish my blue run and didn't capture any luminance. As a result, I used the limited RGB data to create a synthetic luminance channel. Hopefully I can add more data to what was captured last night so that I can try and resolve more detail.
