Description

EAA is great for just simply wandering around the sky looking for interesting views. This view is of just a small part of the Milky Way's disk in the Scorpius / Sagittarius region. In itself it seems pretty unremarkable until you realize that each of the thousands (millions?) of tiny dots is a star and that many (most?) may have a planetary system. And although it may at first seem that there are separate clouds of stars, in reality there is just one cloud extending over the entire image with parts hidden behind the strands and patches of cold dark gas and dust that we call dark nebulae.

For orientation, the bright open cluster Messier 7 is a couple of frames away off the top right corner.
