Description

This is an image of IC410, the tadpoles nebula in auriga captured from the 16" RCOS at Sierra Remote Observatory.

The tadpoles themselves are dark dust features that extend for about 10 light years, radiating outward from the center of the star-forming region, much like the pillars of creation they are believed to be the site of ongoing star formation. The main emission nebula IC410 is about 10,000 light-years away.

The image was captured during a period of absolutely exceptional seeing this fall at SRO. Ranging from 0.5" to 0.8" which is absurd. Under typical seeing conditions, the camera combination used for this image would never work, given that at 3658mm focal length and 3.76um pixels sample at 0.2"/px.

SRO just completed two new buildings, so there are lots of open spots to host a telescope here now. You can learn more here !
