Description

Popular target for astrophotographers. Large, oblique spiral with lots of very dark dust lanes, and star forming regions visible between them. Bowl shaped central region. Large halo. Several prominent background galaxies.

My first large galaxy with EdgeHD 925. Still had only the color deep sky camera. Captured images over five nights. Must have reprocessed this 10 times. Got pretty good detail in the central areas. Color should be accurate.

The acquisition details above include all exposures. The final image used
215 frames (of 268) x 300s @ Gain 200 @ -10C = 17h 55m exposure time

(I upgraded the guiding camera during this project from ASI120MM-MINI to ASI174MM-MINI. After this image I got a monochrome camera and filter wheel.)
