Description

The much photographed (and studied) Pelican Nebula (IC5070 & IC5067) is a bright nebula located in the constellation Cygnus. It  lies approximately 2000 light years from us with a linear diameter of ~30 light years. Dark clouds of dust help define the pelicans beak and eyes shape. IC5070/67 is part of the same very active star forming HII region as the North American nebula (NGC7000). A large molecular dust cloud separates them. My image contains only the east coast area of the nebula. The pelican appears to be staring at the Gulf of Mexico.

HA/S2/O3 and RGB (stars) data were acquired over a 4 night span in August 2022 from my home (Bortle 4 skies).
