Description

Iris Nebula, stretched to make the rich dust fields more visible

36x300s
90x120s
30xFlat+Flatdark + 30x Darks for each of the two sessions

This has been taken in two nights on Dec 14, 2022 and Jan 18, 2023. It's the first picture using the ASI ZWO EAF which is indeed a neat extension of the setup.

On Dec 14 I squeezed the last few electrons out of my 10y+ old battery to get the last picture and the flats and flatdarks taken. Did you know the EQ9R Pro starts blinking when voltage falls under 10.7V? It was a bit of  a pitty that in the middle of the session I had a power failure of my laptop because I didn't notice that the plug silently disconnected and I ran on the laptop's own battery. When I rebooted it I had to charge the laptop battery - at least a bit. With the temperatures at -7C and three heating straps connected to the telescope, the guide scope and the EAF, this was too much. At the end the battery didn't have enough power to slew to the parking position.

By the next session on Jan 18 I was equipped with a new 55Ah battery for my setup and the old battery now feeds the laptop which seems to be more tolerant to low voltages. This time I had no issues powerwise and was very lucky that I could use exact those 5.5h after sunset without clouds. I started with the first exposure when the last cloud was gone and stopped when the first new cloud came in. For a change the "Clearoutside" app's weather forecast was 100% correct.
