Description

I'm very happy to share my first committed attempt at a panel mosaic- I can't stress enough, that I highly suggest you give it a try if you haven't yet, and if you can find the opportunity. I am very pleased with how it developed, yet I still observe the ever-present opportunity for improvement.

While using KStars (and the HiPS All Sky Overlay feature within), I noticed some blue nebulosity in the sea of red. Being unfamiliar, a search of "NGC6914" returned spectacular images of an NGC object I had never seen nor heard of, so I decided then that I would spend a good deal of time on it, attempting to push the power of my telescope to its limits here on the West Coast of Northern California. Sadly, health and wild fires took some of my clear skies away, but for what I was able to capture, I think the end result satisfies my spirits well enough.

Though the lower left quadrant is lacking on some LRGB, it did still turn out fine- and I do have around 3-5hrs extra LRGB of said quadrant that I was able to capture later in August 2020, though I'm not sure when I will find the time to process it into the mix. My 254mm mirror is in need of a recoating and soon I will be changing out my aluminum OTA for one made of carbon fiber, in order to lessen the load on the trust Losmandy G11 equatorial mount. This should help in the realm of tight, round stars.

Two objects grab my attention in this photo, Parsamyan22 (described in fine detail by user Gary Imm, here) and the object at 20 23 48.0 A, +42 12 25 D. I cannot find much on this second object, and so I ask your help in determining what exactly it is. The star trail artifact near the object already has me itching to jump back into post-processing again, but that will have to wait until another day.

As the 2x2 panel mosaic stands, the sub counts are:
Top left(8hrs30min);
24L,15R,14G,10B,39Ha
Top right(8hrs);
22L,13R,10G,11B,40Ha
Bottom left(6hrs40min);
17L,9R,9G,9B,38Ha
Bottom right(8hrs20min);
20L,14R,13G,13B,40Ha

Astro Pixel Processor does not come with an easy learning curve, but the results have sold me on mosaics (any further advice is accepted with open arms!)- between APP and PI, I have little to worry about in the need for software, yet it certainly comes with the need for time spent learning my way around the functionality!
