Description

NGC 6334 is an emission nebula in the Scorpius constellation, around 5500 light years from earth.

It is one of the most active regions that we currently know of when it comes to new star formation. Several thousand new stars are forming there as we speak and this trend will likely continue for quite a while to come (astronomically speaking). The exact reasons why stellar formation there is higher compared to seemingly very similar regions is currently still a mystery.
