Description

NGC1499, vast emission nebula visible in the constellation of Perseus. First time photographing 1499, better known as the California nebula, due to its resemblance to the American state of the same name.
Although very large, almost 2.5°, its brightness is very low, which does not make visual observation easy. It is located north of the fourth magnitude star Xi Persei, a blue-white main sequence star of spectral type O7, belonging to the Perseus OB2 stellar association, a group of young stars probably born from this interstellar cloud. The brightest star in Perseus OB2, Zeta Persei, is a class B1 white supergiant of magnitude 2.83 about half a degree south of the California Nebula. The California Nebula, almost 1000 light years away, is located in the direction of the outer galactic arm of Orion, the outer arm of our galaxy, the Milky Way. The entire nebula is a region of intense star formation.
Shot from the observatory of my home garden in Mogoro - Sardinia, with my most beloved combination, Celestron C11 + Hypersar and Dual Band ALP_T filter.
Ciao e Cieli Sereni!!
