Description

The Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) is a spiral satellite galaxy of the Milky Way. At a distance of around 163,000 light-years, the LMC is the second or third closest galaxy to the Milky Way and is about 32,200 light-years across.  It straddles the constellations Dorado and Mensa with an apparent length of about 10 degrees to the naked eye, 20 times the Moon's diameter.
It is quite a treat visually as through binoculars and telescopes both large and small. The Tarantula Nebula (NGC 2070) on the left is a large HII region in the south-east corner  of Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) and is the  most active starburst region known in the Local Group of galaxies. There is a lot more to the LMC  than this but the Tarantula is the best and brightest of a truly amazing field. It is simply stunning, particularly with large scopes, with or without filters. OIII works a treat to bring out the spider. I have observed the entire LMC field for many, many hours with scopes both large and small but it can cause traffic jams at the foot of the ladder!

I really hope ZWO comes out with a rotator that can plug into the amazingly convenient ASIAir soon as that could make mosaics a LOT easier.  Anyway the rare clear night after 3 weeks of rubbish got put to good use and I finished this 2 panel mosaic. I find that by dithering EVERY sub I CAN use 2 x Drizzle to great effect despite sometimes having only 8 subs per channel. A 24 Core Threadripper helps. I had to shrink the image by over 70% to get it under 35 Mb.
