Description

The Orion Nebula is a diffuse nebula situated in the Milky Way, being south of Orion's Belt in the constellation of Orion.=10.5px It is one of the brightest nebulae and is visible to the naked eye in the night sky. It is one of the most scrutinized and photographed objects in the night sky and is among the most intensely studied celestial features. The nebula has revealed much about the process of how stars and planetary systems are formed from collapsing clouds of gas and dust.

This is my first attempt at creating an HDR image using the Orion Nebula. I struggled quite a bit and had to start over a couple of times. I had to use the HDR process fairly early on as otherwise I was getting artifacts in the core from using Foraxx SHO combination.

Let me know if you have some guidance for improving it!

Preprocessing in PI:
- WBPP for calibration and cosmetization
- SubframeSelector to find best image by PSF signal and by weight for each exposure stack
- StarAlignment
- LocalNormalization using best image by PSF signal as reference
- ImageIntegration using best image by weight as reference

Processing in PI:
- DynamicCrop
- DBE
- HDR Composition for each layer to combine 15s, 60s, and 180s into one master
- LinearFit Oiii and Sii using Ha as reference
- Stretch with STF and HistogramTransformation
- EZ HDR
- PixelMath to combine into SHO image

Postprocessing in PI:
- LRGBCombination using Ha as luminance
- SCNR
- CurvesTransformation
- TGVDenoise
- ACDNR
- MLT to slightly sharpen image
- LocalHistogramEqualization with RangeSelection masks
- DarkStructureEnhance
- final CurvesTransformation
- StarXterminator and CorrectMagenStars then add stars back with PixelMath
