Description

NGC2170 is also known as the Angel Nebula and is located in the constellation of Monoceros. It lies at a distance of about 2400 light years from us and about 40 light years in diameter. This colorful object consists of several dark nebula, outlining a "Monarch Butterfly wing" pattern against the red ionized hydrogen cloud which is surrounded by various reflection nebula reflecting the bright starlight of the many suns embedded within them, all of this set in a rich starfield consisting of various colored stars. It is one of the closest star forming regions to the Sun.
