Description

At the end of summer, the constellation of Cygnus towers in the sky, showing us its treasures. One of them is the Cocoon Nebula. The nebula, cataloged as IC 5146, is some 4,000 light-years away and nearly 15 light-years across. The bright star in the center most likely illuminates this nebula. The hydrogen glows red, the blue color is caused by the reflection of light from a dust cloud.
