Description

Tasmania's east coast is home to some truly stunning scenery. From the incredible mountainscape of Freycinet, to the unique wildlife on Maria Island, to the pristine sapphire blue waters and iconic lichen-covered rocks of the Bay of Fires, it has it all.

One other thing that it has is possibly the most famous tree in all of Tasmania. Standing lone in Binalong Bay, this tree draws crowds nearly every day of the year hoping to catch a glimpse to share to their friends and followers.

When we arrived, the core was riding beautifully behind the tree. Along for the ride was a conjunction of Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn (below the horizon), casting surreal reflections in the water below.

It's a rare time I get to use my tracking mount, but every time I do I'm blown away by how much detail can be extracted with relatively minimal effort from my unmodified Canon 5D Mark IV. I easily could've doubled the exposure time here, but at 3 in the morning after driving 6 hours… sitting on a rock by the bay is about all you want to do.

Take a moment to look up and relax. You never know what is lurking above you.
