Description

This famous Nebula also called "Gabriella Mistral nebula" is closely associated with an open cluster NGC 3324 northwest of the Carina Nebula.
It is located about 7,200 light-years in the southern constellation of Carina.

The dark patches in the image are regions where veils of dust block out the light from the background glowing gas. The Nickname of this nebula comes from its resemblance to Gabriela Mistral, the first Latin American author to receive the Nobel price in Literature. A little bit like the running chicken nebula, you really have to use your imagination to see the resemblance.. but it is in there somewhere If you wan to know more about Gabriella see here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gabriela_Mistral

This image consist of 15h of data taken from my bortle 7 backyard in Bentleigh, Melbourne, Australia and is a combination an SHO image and RGB stars.

Credits where it is due, I would like to acknowledge the fact that I took my inspiration for the framing of this image from Andrew Campbell (Andy 01 or Andy Astro as some of you may know him by that name) who took a breathtaking image of this subject with similar framing but in portrait mode. His image won IOTD a few week back and you should check it out if you have not yet. Despite my many attempts at trying different angle for framing this subject, this was ultimately the frame that got and hold my attention the most... so I had to go with that.
