Description

It's common for owners of widefield scopes to shy away from small targets like M1.  People assume you need a big scope to get an acceptable image of it.  This isn't always the case, especially with the tiny pixels we have access to today.

To accomplish this, I used a 1.5x extender for my Takahashi Epsilon 130D.  This increases the focal length from 430mm to 650mm (I tried this target at 430 and it actually was not bad) opening up the way to a much larger variety of targets.  The other component was the RisingCam IMX585 camera, which has 2.9 micron pixels and a small rectangular chip providing a narrow FOV.  Although it's an OSC camera, the Antlia ALP-T filter cuts right through my severe LP (Bortle 7-8).

I'll be using this setup a lot, especially during galaxy season.  Having slept during every galaxy season since I started the hobby in 2016, I'm excited to see what I can get.
