Description

This image of IC59 and IC63 was cut a bit short... I had originally planned on shooting more L and much more Ha, but I'm trying to finish up some of my outstanding projects on my TOA-150 before my new telescope shows up.  I decided to go ahead and process this data.  I think the result came out ok considering that I didn't really complete all of the data that I wanted to capture on this object.

I also came across an interesting fact...

No, Navi did not steal it's name from the movie Avatar!

Back in the early 60's the astronauts were being taught celestial navigation. Gus Grissom (from the Mercury missions) thought that this star was easy to find and navigate by, so he nicknamed it Navi. Gus' middle name is Ivan, so this star is also his middle name spelled backwards, making it the only star in the sky nicknamed after an astronaut.
