Description

Beautiful colours in this unique looking Pencil Nebula captured over a couple of nights RGB + UHC filter to get additional HA/Hb/O3 signal blended together in Pixinsight (NBRGB script). This is a crop of a wider field which shows some dark nebula matter and other parts of the nebulosity but will at one point take more of the area and see if what results is interesting....

NGC 2736 is a small part of the Vela Supernova Remnant, located near the Vela Pulsar in the constellation Vela. The nebula's linear appearance triggered its popular name. It is about 815 light-years away. John Herschel described this object at its discovery as "an extraordinary long narrow ray of excessively feeble light" in March 1835. This is the expanding debris cloud of a star that exploded cca 11k years ago.
