Description

C/2021 S3 (Panstarrs) is now a 8.3 magnitude comet appearing in the constellation Cygnus (17th March was 7.5 magnitude and in Aquila).   It is in a densely packed starfield on the edge of the Milky Way.

It has a parabolic orbit and it closest approach to the Sun was in March 2024.  I have able to image it earlier in the morning than last month as it swings around the house and into my imaging FoV.  This is my 2nd capture on the morning of 16th of April starting 04h45.

Wanted to capture in mono to see the difference and it is significantly more prominent.

This image shows that the tail  has  straightened out compared to my previous colour image (https://astrob.in/nl66ez/0/) - perhaps it means 'a less turbulent solar wind flow as the comet enters higher solar latitudes' (feedback from the research team).
