Description

Also known as NGC5457, The Pinwheel Galaxy is 21 million light years away and 170,000 light years in diameter. It was discovered in 1781 by Pierre Mechain and was listed in Charles Msesier's catalog the same year. Look closely and you can see some companion galaxies which are affecting the shape of M101, making it assymetrical.
