Description

The Trifid Nebula (M20) is composed by several individual formations: an emission nebula (red region), a reflection nebula (blue region), a dark nebula (the filaments mainly in front of the emission nebula) and an open cluster of stars (result of this star formation region itself, with approximately 3100 young stars).

This nebula has a radius of 21 light years, and it is located about 4100 light years away from us, in the Sagittarius constellation. It was discovered by Charles Messier in 1764, however, some claim that it might have been discovered by Guillaume Le Gentil back in 1750.

This is not my first attempt on this nebula, but without any doubt, this is the one that shows more detail.
