Kohoutek 3-27 (K3-27, also know as PN G061.0+08.0) is a fairly small 14.9 magnitude planetary a bit off the beaten track measuring just 20 arc seconds in diameter. Measurements from 2008 put the object at a distance of about 15500 light years, which is between 5 and 6 times more distant than the famous Ring Nebula nearby in Lyra. Given its distance and diameter of only about 1/3 that of the Ring nebula, K3-27 may physically be as much as twice the size of the Ring Nebula.

Mix of colors in the nebula is a bit odd and muddy. I hunted around for spectral measurements, but only found a 2008 paper with UV spectra. So I have no idea what the relative H-alpha, H-beta and OIII emissions look like. Given the color, its seems that red H-alpha and blue-green H-beta lines dominate over the green OIII emission, giving a mixture of bluish-purple and magenta in the image here. The blue central star is easily visible here too, with a visual magnitude, according to the same paper, of 18.5.

Each of the four 8 minute exposures was a live-stack of 320 x 1.5 second subs.

PLATESOLVING: the plate-solve looks right, but that is certainly not 4 Cygni in the lower left!

The wide double at upper right is 8.1 and 10.8 magnitude SAO 86970.
