Description

Finally received my ONTC 8" f/4.5 Newt from TS Optics after an import blunder from FedEx that held the scope up for a week and it nearly being sent back to Germany.  The carbon tube is beautiful and incredibly lightweight.  I really like the design of the mirror cell. Very simple and stout.  As expected, the linear bearing focuser is rock solid on the tube, I don't think I will bother replacing it with my Baader SteelTrack. I quickly whipped up an EAF mount with the 3D printer and a dew shield with some EVA foam.

I've currently got it set up with the Starizona Nexus coma corrector/reducer to bring the f-ratio down to f/3.4 at 675mm FL.  I had first light last night and had a bit of a scare with odd star shapes that I quickly diagnosed as tube currents.  I went outside and removed the rear cover and after a few minutes the stars were perfect.

With the scope completely set up for imaging it weighed 21 lbs.  The old steel tube orion newt was over 36lbs.

The scope is beautiful and the service and communication with TS was top notch.  It took a little over 4 months for the scope to be built and delivered.  I should have an image from the new scope coming out very soon.
