Description

This is an ensemble of partial eclipse images (through a solar filter) taken with a Nikon D500 mated to an 80-400mm zoom at 400mm (600mm 35 full frame equivalent).  The center image is from an unfiltered AP 92mm Stowaway refractor capturing images during totality using a Nikon D810A as the sensor.

Clouds made this a very challenging eclipse, especially after the start of totality.  The partial eclipse photos after conclusion of totality was the most challenging.   The shade of the orange in the ensemble is a reflection of the density of the clouds that I was shooting through.

I took photos during the partial phases at one minute intervals and then took the best of these which illustrated the transition the best.

For totality,  I used a program called Solar Eclipse Maestro, which actually did what it was supposed to do and initiated photos synchronized with the totality phenomena, but the clouds largely foiled the ability to capture diamond ring, Bailey's Beads, corona, etc.   Only a handful of images out of the 245 taken in and around totality produced images worthy of saving.  (I have a separate effort underway to see what can be teased out of totality images.)

The impact of totality was still felt by all observers at  my location and worthy of the effort to be there in the path of totality.
