Description

I'm happy with this one, but...  Holy hell was it a pain to process because there was something wrong with my flats (I'm still trying to figure out exactly what's going on there.  Tried using my iPad to do the flats and resulted in weird rings that are clearly not in the lights).  And there was no way to take new ones after the recent wind storm blew over my scope and I had to clean out the camera and the filters, so I was stuck with dealing with what I had, and mostly I ended up using old flats with the very poor correction that implies.  And as a result, I couldn't do actual SHO like I'd originally planned because the background gradients were a complete mess and it basically ruined the image (and even with my final palette it cost me some faint detail I had to curve out).

So I ended up picking SOO instead (which looked a bit better than HOO).  H-ɑ data got included in the luminosity channel, though.  I think SOO looks pretty good here, because IC443 is a supernova remnant, and the texture of it is a lot like the Veil.  Even the color, a bit.  It just works.

I also took true color images for the stars, but ended up not using any of the color data, just the luminosity, since that looked better.  I also didn't get quite as much data as I'd hoped to get thanks to wind, fire (well, smoke), and snow... But that didn't hurt too much, I think.

This is also the first series I did with the Eagle 4 and N.I.N.A.  I'm very, very pleased with that combination so far.
