Description

This image holds a special place in my heart for a couple of reasons. First and foremost, it marks my initial foray into capturing galaxies, a task that seemed quite daunting to me initially due to my location. Second, I managed to capture this image from my suburban backyard, which experiences light pollution levels of Bortle 6/7, so the fact that I was able to get clear results under these conditions is incredibly satisfying.

NGC 253 is one of the brightest spiral galaxies visible from Earth, and it is also particularly dusty. Its popularity is evident from the multitude of images available on AstroBin. However, what helped me in capturing this image was the galaxy's position in the sky; it was located very close to the zenith, which minimised the effects of atmospheric distortion. Also I opted for a series of 60-second exposures, accumulating a substantial amount of data that helped a bunch. I must also give credit to GraXpert, as it did an exceptional job of removing gradient and left me with some incredibly usable data.

this image was drizzled 2x and cropped about 50% to get a close up view of the object since I'm shooting with a 749mm refractor

I am really pleased with how this image turned out, considering the circumstances, and I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do.
