Description

DS 1 (ESO 215-4) is a magnitude 12.12 planetary nebula in Vela discovered by John Drilling in 1983 and quite large at 6x5  arcminutes and the OIII emission line predominates causing the blue green colour.  Rarely imaged  and with an embedded Mag (J) 14.574 background Galaxy 2MASX J10544233-4846198 it made quite an interesting object to image.
LSS 2018, the central star of the planetary nebulae DS1, was found to be a a double-lined spectroscopic binary central star with a period of 8.571 hours and an extremely large reflection effect.
The entire field shows a lot of IFN (Integrated Flux Nebula)  but I dialed that back.

I managed 8.7 hours of good 10 minute SHO exposures over the last month under some very good conditions despite a LOT of cloud and some record breaking rain. On the plus side when it stopped raining the seeing was excellent!
