Description

Thor's Helmet, also known as NGC 2359 is an emission nebula in Canis Major, featuring mostly Oxygen with Hydrogen highlights. I originally shot this over 2 years ago, and with my better acquisition and processing skills, decided to revisit it. I captured RGB, Ha and OIII for this image and combined them by mapping them to their respective channels (Continuum subtraction was NOT used for this). Hydrogen is mapped as 80% red, 20% blue, while Oxygen is mapped 43% green and 57% blue. HOO with RGB stars has never been appealing to me as there can be useful data in the broadband channels that are lost when the stars are extracted, while the narrowband result is flat due to it being bicolor.
Feedback is always appreciated and Clear Skies
