Description

The image was taken after my other image of M31 in the early evening, then switching to M42 after it cleared my backyard trees.

This was my first attempt at using multiple exposure times and HDR processing to increase the dynamic range.  It was challenging figuring out all the levers of the new processing techniques plus weaving in Ha into the image as well.  I processed using HDR Composition at a 0.8, 0.6, and 0.4 binarizing threshold, and settled on 0.4.  Still not sure if I optimized the dynamics, but I know that it worked.  I guessed at the exposure times after taking some test shots to see if I was in the ballpark.  I tried to preserve the detail while acknowledging the inherit brightness of this object.  A difficult tightrope to walk.  Being an engineer in an 'artistic' endeavor, I feel overwhelmed by the literal millions of possible image outcomes, but at some point you have to just say "quit."
