Description

After a long period of winter cloud cover, we finally managed to catch a piece of sky.
The Rosette Nebula (NGC 2237) - an emission nebula located in the constellation of Unicorn.
NGC 2237 is located approximately 5,200 light-years from Earth and spans an area of 100 light-years.
The name Rosette was given to this nebula because of its shape similar to a rose flower. Inside the nebula is the open cluster NGC 2244, which consists of bright and young stars. These stars formed from nebular material about 4 million years ago. Stellar winds caused by young stars blew a hole in the central part of the nebula, which is isolated by layers of dust and hot gas. The glow of the Rosette Nebula is the result of ultraviolet radiation caused by the cluster's hot stars.
