Description

Put my portable/off-grid system to the test while camped deep in the Gifford Pinchot this weekend. Forecast was not great, but I set up anyway hoping that Mt. St. Helens (a couple of miles due west of camp) would break up the marine layer coming straight off the Pacific. And that's exactly what happened. The mountain opened up a lane of mostly clear skies right above us. Still ended up throwing out a dozen or so subs from stray clouds that drifted in. And most of these are also unguided, as the clouds  kept tripping up PHD2. I knew I was well aligned though, and at such a forgiving focal length things turned out way better than I expected. Bortle 2 skies also make a huge difference. I have never seen so much signal burst onto the screen!
