Description

My original plan for years leading up to the 2024 eclipse was to be in southwest Texas, which had the best chances for clear skies in the US. However, the weather decided to do a flip-flop -- SW Texas was totally clouded out, and Maine had some of the clearest weather! I couldn't make it all the way to Maine, so my friend Dan and I switched gears and drove straight through to Ohio instead, where we ended up with high clouds but good views nonetheless.

I wrote a NINA sequence to control my ZWO ASI2600MC Pro on my Takahashi FSQ-106N onboard my new iOptron HAE29, and after practice and tweaks, the sequence ran perfectly and I got all the shots I wanted and more. Here's a shot of the inner corona and some of the prominences. The one on the bottom was truly impressive and was visible naked-eye, and it was glorious in binoculars! Having an active sun during the eclipse was a real treat. This exposure is 2 ms (1/500s).
