Description

After a few failed attempts due to tracking problems with my old Losmandy G11 mount that was overdue for a good cleaning and relubrication, I switched over to a different setup and was able to capture this image of the Rosette Nebula over the course of two nights.  This image was taken from my relatively light polluted back yard using a small refractor telescope (Tele Vue TV-85) with a dual band nebula boost filter (IDAS NBZ).

The Rosette Nebula is an HII region located near one end of a giant molecular cloud in the Monoceros region of the Milky Way Galaxy. The open cluster NGC 2244 is closely associated with the nebulosity, the stars of the cluster having been formed from the nebula's matter. The nebula spans 130 light years, has an angular size of 1.3 degrees and is located about 5,200 light years away.
