Description

This galaxy season I have been selecting targets that I haven't imaged in the past. NGC 4236 is not the most interesting barred spiral galaxy. But, the surface brightness is low and there aren't a lot of bright stars nearby. This allowed me to use 5 minute LRGB exposures without blowing out the core or any annoying star glow.

I used my 130 mm Stellarvue refractor for this target. I have the SVA-130T with the Feather Touch focuser. I haven't used this scope for a long time. It worked fairly well and the stars look good to the edges of the ASI2600mm even without the flattener.

One issue I had was a bright gradient near the center. This was minimal with the RGB filters but much more pronounced with Lum. I tried to correct this with both PI GradientCorrection and Graxpert. In this case, GraXpert did a much better job although I find PI GradientCorrection to work slightly better with other images.

This is two nights of imaging under transparent - but not the best seeing - skies. All five minute subs with about twice the Lum.
