Description

Another view of 2020 apparition from my archives.  Taken 4 days following closest approach, 72 hours ahead of opposition.

The night had variable seeing which stabilised for a short period around 1:30 am AEDT.  This is the best stack out of four with just over 4,500 frames.

Solis Lacus commonly known as 'the Eye of Mars' is prominent in the southwest, Tharsis Ridge volcanos rising immediately to its north.  Ascraeus Mons caldera and its shadow is easy to spot followed by Arsia Mons close to the western limb.  Halfway between the two, Pavonis Mons is much less obvious.  Valles Marineris is crossing the meridian and the SPC is splitting up.  Argyre and Mare Erythraeum show a lot of detail in the south.
