Description

M101 with the new Supernova SN 2023ixf shining brightly.  It is the only star in the entire M101 galaxy (approximately one trillion stars) that is large and bright  enough to register a diffraction spike!  That's no small feat, considering it is around 21 million light years distant.  I experimented with Astro Sharp to bring out some detail in this image.
