Description

NGC 55 From Red and Luminance Subs Only!

A.K.A: Cadwell 72

OTA: CDK 24"
Camera: Mor. 61000 (downsampled 4x)
Observatory: Heaven's Mirror
Date of Capture: Aug-Sept 2023
Date of Processing: Sept 2023

Exposures:
R:11  x 900 sec
L: 19 x 900
Total Exposure time: 7.5 hours
Image Width: 31 arc-minutes

Processing Tools:
1.    Commercial: PixInsight, Topaz (Studio2, Photo AI2), 3DLUT Creator
2.    Pixinsight Addons: NoiseXTerminator, BlurXTerminator, StarXTerminator, Normalize Scale Gradient
3.    My Scripts: NB_Assistant, AC_Restar, Subframe Weighting Tool (Excel w/ J. Hunt)

Processing Description:
That's correct…I had just 1hr of total exposure with about 2/3 of that in luminance and the rest in red…no blue, no green. Blue and green were synthesized from the difference between the luminance pixel values and the red pixel values. This is my first try at such a thing, and it is not bad. It would not be hard to redo and balance colors a bit better…but I not going to do that—this was just a proof of concept.
