Description

This uncropped image represents a wide field effort of the Cone/Christmas Tree Nebula complex NGC2264.  I typically use a unity gain of 111 for both of my ASI183's, but tonight I jacked it up to 200 to see what kind of results I could get. I've also had very good results stopping down my Canon 200mm lens from f/2.8 to 4.0.  This has helped with better focusing and mitigation of any chromatic aberrations that results from using the L-eXtreme filter.  My main concern was being able to calibrate out the amp glow successfully at this gain level. This was also the second time that I used the new polar alignment utility on my ASIAIR Plus, which allows me to polar align without having to see Polaris. This new feature actually worked very well, and allowed me to place my mount and scope right outside my front door. Processing the results, I was pleasantly surprised to also see the Hubble Variable Nebula NGC2261 in the frame. I didn't think that I could see it at 200mm FL.
