Description

Sh2-232 Large center Nebula (Pumpkin)
Sh2-235 Lower left upper Nebula
Sh2-233 Lower left bottom Nebula

Sh2-232, Sh2-235, and SH2-233 are large Emission Nebulae consisting of mostly hydrogen-alpha in the Constellation Auriga. The estimated distance to Sh2-235 is 5,870 light years as is the same for Sh2-235, since they appear to be part of the same cloud of hydrogen.

But they aren’t the only objects in the image...

The small, pinkish, oval structure between the 3 central stars of Sh2-232 is the planetary nebula,
PNG 173.5+03.2.

This a great target for the month of October with lots of Ha, virtually no O3 or SII but you will have to stay up late to get it. 5-minute Ha subs bring out much detail in all three Nebulae.

Got to give a shout out to my southern neighbor @Steve Argereow for his beautiful wide-field version as the inspiration for my Pumpkin. Thanks Steve!

Happy Halloween!
Eddie
