Description

I was at the top of the mountain pass at 3:30am two freezing nights in a row to photograph this image, so I hope it was worth it! It is incredible what a $300 camera and a $300 lens can capture. I first imaged this region 10 months ago at St. Helens, but was not happy with the results and had to try again. Each day in spring, the Milky Way rises earlier and earlier each night, and I'm definitely looking forward to imaging more beautiful areas in our own galaxy soon!

This image was photographed over two nights using my Canon 200D and a Samyang 135mm lens. After culling some frames due to elongated stars and skyglow, I wound up with a total of 200mins worth of data. This was a significant step up over the 30mins from my previous image. Coupled with a faster and very sharp lens, together with some improved processing techniques, I was able to finally reveal more details and the beautiful colours of this exquisite star-forming region.
