Description

Now this was planned as an HaRGBOIII composition but, and this is pretty odd, the OIII frame resulted exceedingly weak in signal compared to either the B or G channel (with B being the stronger) which made my plan moot. Being so noisy and bereft of useful signal I had just to ditch it and opt instead on merging the Ha with the R channel and go for HaRGB, which is what you see here. Why is the OIII signal so weak (but with significant G+B signal)? My guess is that, being B>G some significant H-beta is being picked up by the B channel which obviously not being the case for the G channel. Obviously OIII is very weak so the remainder (in the G channel) must be reflected light from the core cluster/stars and the same would apply, to a lesser measure to the B channel.

Guest appearance in this image are the two guest stars, M50 to the upper right and the Thor's Helmet (NGC2359) to the bottom left. Additionally, a smattering of OCs are shown and also a number of small nebulae, namely SH2-294, DG113, DG114 and SH2-291 from the left clockwise.
