Description

IC 405, the Flaming Star Nebula, is an emission and reflection nebula in the constellation Auriga.  The nebula is illuminated by the blue, irregular, variable star AE Aurigae.  The nebula is approximately 1500 light years from Earth and about 5 light years across.The current version of this image uses a narrowband mixture where:
Red = 75% HA and 25% SII
Green = 50% SII and 50% Blue
Blue = 30% HA and 70% Blue

The narrowband stars were replaced with RGB stars.  Since there was hardly any OIII in this object, more Blue frames were taken to capture the reflection portion of the nebula and mixed in with the HA and SII.
