Description

The Iris was in a perfect position during the last new moon cycle to acquire LRGB data. I really wanted to check to details of the outlying dust clouds  in order to make sure I have eliminated all fixed pattern noise from my images using my flats and lights acquisition strategy for the AC4040 camera. After completing long exposure luminance frames in High Gain 12 bit mode, I noticed that the core was really saturated and so I decided to break out the HDRComposition Tool in Pixinsight and combine some short exposure LRGB frames to resolve core details. I was pleased that it also "healed" some other stars with blown out cores. For the most part, I am favoring the High Gain mode over HighStack Pro, because I still see pattern noise creep in when using the on camera stacking, which is a byproduct I believe of the residual bulk image characteristics of this sensor. HDRComposition to combine long and short exposures works very well and will be a part of my toolbox going forward.

For the most part, the color balance is set by PhotometricColorCalibration of the stars. Looking at other renditions of this nebula at my pixel scale, I see that there are many interpretations of the cloud and nebula color that are made. I just decided to let the PCC color stand...with a bit of saturation.
